Friday's the day!

Yes, Friday is the day we'll be having our beautiful baby. I went to see the doctor today and he said I'm still at a one, haven't progressed at all really since last time. So, based on all of that and the fact that my due date is this Friday, he asked me what I'd like to do. I told him how, even though it sounds childish and selfish, I really had my heart set on having her before the month ended. He said that that was fine, and explained that induction puts the mom at risk for having a c-section, but that if I was induced now, my risk of c-section would be the exact same as if I waited until next Monday (40 1/2 weeks, which is the longest he'll let me go). So basically, he said what it came down to was if I wanted to get it over with now, or wait it out and say "oh well, I waited as long as I could". I told him I'd like to wait a little longer, to see if she'd decide to come on her own, but that I'd really like to have her before the month was over. He said that that was perfectly fine, but that they didn't do inductions on the weekend, so my options were inducing Tuesday for a Wednesday baby, Wednesday for a Thursday baby, or Thursday for a Friday baby. I chose Thursday for a Friday baby, that way she'll be born when she's supposed to be and I won't feel so guilty being induced. Plus, I'll have given it a few more days to see if she decides to come on her own. I really hope she decides to come on her own, but if not, I'll know that I atleast gave it a full 40 weeks. Plus, I've been so horribly swollen lately that I'm pretty much done waiting. I've had lost of aches and pains, and the swelling is pretty much unbearable at this point, so I'm ready for it to be all done. And, you never know, a lot can happen in 3 days, I may just have her on my own! Either way, I'm going to keep praying that no matter what, all goes well. I want a happy, healthy baby with no complications more than anything at this point. So, we'll see what happens by the end of the week. Wish me luck!!

Baby Shower

Oh, I forgot to mention my baby shower in my last post, so I'll do it now. Last Saturday, my mom and sisters threw me a baby shower for all my friends and acquaintances here in Las Vegas and it was SO much fun! The Friday before the shower, my mom and I made hand-dipped strawberries and they turned out awesome! My mom wanted us to do chocolate dipped ones, since I know how to work with chocolate, but I convinced her it wouldn't be a good idea, since we had such a large quantity of strawberries, and chocolate is not only pricey, but unless you have the right equipment, dipping a large quantity of anything can prove VERY time consuming and tough, since you'd have to stop every few strawberries to re-temper to chocolate...and we were short on time. SO, what we did instead was buy those Wilton candy melts (since they look and taste just like chocolate but are a zillion times easier to work with) and used those to dip the strawberries, and they turned out awesome! See, who said laziness doesn't pay off? ;)
The shower the next day turned out awesome! My mom busted her bum the night before making me two cakes for my shower and that morning her and my sisters cranked out all the rest of the food and decorations before all the guests showed up. And a special 'thanks' to my awesome MIL for bringing over a yummy veggie tray and giving my mom and sisters a break! They TOTALLY appreciated it!
I got LOTS of gifts and it was so awesome to see everyone. Some of the people that came to my shower I haven't seen in a very, very long time, so I got the chance to catch up with them. It was cool to see all the support and love I have from all my friends, and they all bought me such awesome gifts! I am now 100% set and ready to have this baby! I have everything I need, it's so great!!! So yes, the shower was a HUGE success and it was SUCH a blast, I enjoyed every single minute of it! When I get the pictures from my mom, I'll post them up. Thank you to those of you who came to share in my celebratory day, and thank you for your love and generosity! I just can't wait until my sweet little bean comes along!!

The last week...

Yep, as of today I have 7 days left. At some points over the last couple of weeks I thought she was going to decide to come early, but I see now that I was right at the beginning when I assumed she would either arrive on time or late. I just knew I wouldn't be 'lucky' enough to have an early baby! :)
So, I talked to the doctor at my last appt. on Monday; he said that if by my due date I haven't had her on my own that they'll induce me. He said that he doesn't like to let mothers go past their due date more than a couple of days, too many complications can arise from going past your due date, especially because she's been ready to come out for the past 3 weeks. SO, when I go in for my next appt. this coming Monday, I think I'm going to ask him to set up an appointment for me to be induced that weekend, just in case she doesn't come during that week. I really want to have her before the end of the month, and if she doesn't come on her due date, at least she can be born on my Dad's b-day! :)
At my last appt., I asked the doctor to do another internal check to see if I had progressed, especially since last week I had been having LOTS of contractions, and many painful ones. But alas, no progress! I'm still at a 1. But, my doctor said to not be too discouraged. He said that some women can start out labor at a 0 and progress rapidly in a matter of hours, and alternatively, some women could be at a 3 for weeks before finally going into labor. What determines it all is the baby and when she decides she wants to make her debut. Of course, my child is stubborn, because she takes after me...the QUEEN of stubborn. Oh dear.
So, all week I had been hoping to go into labor, but nothing. I've been having the occasional Braxton Hicks contraction, but nothing to get my hopes up over. :( I just know this kid won't come on her own....she's gonna have to be told when to come out. She's run out of room in my tummy, so she's resorted to lots of painful punches, squirms, and kicks, and my response to her when she does all this is "If you want more room, you're MORE than welcome to come out! There's PLENTY of room out here!" (And yes, I do actually say this to my stomach....I'm so weird.) I have a feeling she's going to be one of those babies that wants to be held all the time. Thank goodness she's the first for Mike and I, and that we have lots of family....she'll probably rarely ever get set down!
Other than that, nothing is new; nothing has changed. I just hope that each day is the day, but I know deep down that that day isn't the day... but I continue to hope anyways. Well, at least I can say by the end of the month (in the next 8-9 days) I'll be having a new little baby of my very own! I just hope she comes on her own, I don't want to have to be induced. BUUUUUT, if she doesn't come on her own, I won't hesitate to ask them to induce me! So, we'll see on next week's post what happens, won't we? Keep your fingers crossed that she comes sooner rather than later! I know I am!!

2 weeks to go...

...but hopefully she'll come sooner!!
So, today I hit the 38 week mark, taking me that much closer to seeing my little baby. I'm so excited and I simply cannot wait.
I've been in a lot of pain lately, and so it makes me that much more anxious to have this baby. She dropped last Sunday morning and ever since then my pains have been magnified. Before I always had the backaches and the horrifically swollen legs and feet, but now the back pain has exploded into full-on back-and-stomach achy-fires that feel as if my body is going to suddenly implode under the crippling pain. I've found that I literally can't do ANY housework anymore. Any bending, twisting, reaching, squatting movement causes my back excruciating amounts of pain. What sucks is that despite this pain, I can't keep myself from doing housework...I see things in disarray and I just HAVE to get them in order...it's like my brain is on crack! Ask Mike, he's gotten pretty frustrated with me lately. I'll clean-clean-clean all day long, and then when he comes home I'll be so sore that I literally can NOT walk. I just sit in the chair and wince from the pain. Mike's been trying to help me out a lot with housework lately (well, whatever is left over when he gets home, which is usually dishes after dinner), and I couldn't be more grateful for his help, he's a total life-saver!
I hosted a Relief Society activity at my house last night, showing some of the ladies how I prepare my biscuit casserole. I had taken it easy all of that day, going to my mom's house to visit and help out with making party favors for my shower so that I wouldn't be tempted to seed our backyard (yes, the other day, after I had been vacuuming and cleaning and doing laundry all morning, I had the strong urge to go in the backyard and level our grass area and plant our grass seed, but thankfully my good senses prevailed before I made it out the door) or do any other crazy housework, so that I wouldn't be sore for my demonstration later on that night. I thought taking it easy would help, but it turns out the preparation of the food and demonstration alone were enough to set my back on fire and start up a series of very painful contractions that only ended after I fell asleep last night. Sooooo, as a result, Mike has put me on strict "bed rest" today. I'm not allowed to do ANY house work and if I do, there will be definite Hell to pay. So, not wanting to invoke the wrath of my loving husband, and thanks to some prior plans, I'll be heading to my mom's again today to work on more favors and things for my baby shower. Luckily for Mike, my mom's real gung-ho about making sure I don't overdo myself in the SLIGHTEST, and mostly because she doesn't want me going into labor before my shower on Saturday. ;) I don't blame her, she's put a LOT of effort into orchestrating this shower, and I'm excited to see how it goes. The only thing I've been allowed to be a part of is making the favors and some of the snacks for the party, and only because she really needs the help. Stephanie, my beautiful sister-in-law, has been awesome enough to help out my mom with stuff too, despite the fact that she has two little boys (one JUST turned one year about a month ago and the other is 2 months old) AND just had her gallbladder taken out. She's such a trooper!! I really admire her, I don't know how she does it!
Sooooo, that's that. The one thing I'm not looking forward to today are the severely swollen feet and legs that I'm bound to acquire. I've found that the days when I'm not crazy-active all day, my feet swell to monstrous proportions, and on the days when I'm so active that I feel like I'm a million-year-old lady by the end of the day, my legs only swell slightly, so that I almost don't notice the swelling. So basically right now I can't win. But, I do have to say that I have been loving being pregnant, despite it all, and will be excited when I can experience it again. But, for now, I'd just like for this little beauty-bean to be born so she can be a bigger part of Mike's and my life. I'm so excited, I just can't wait!!

Baby Stuff

3 weeks to go!

So today I hit the 37 week mark, which means I'm that much closer to meeting my sweet baby, AND that much closer to being able to start losing weight! Things have really gone well during this pregnancy, but I can see why at the end women start to "hate" it...you just seem to get anxious to meet your baby, you get tired of not being able to sleep comfortably, being in pain all the time, never being able to get comfortable, things like that. But, it has all been worth it so far. I just really want to meet her! It's funny, when I told my mom the other day about how my doctor's appt. went (that I was about 1 cm dilated and that my cervix was very soft) she told me that she was gonna kill me if I had this baby before the baby shower next Saturday. Hahahaha! :) I guess that's what happens when you have your baby shower so close to the end!
So, like I said, things have being going pretty well, but I'm ready for her to come. The not sleeping thing is progressively getting a little bit worse and worse each night, and I'm at the point where my body hurts almost all the time, either in one place or all over, and I can't seem to ever get comfortable. It also seems like I've always got a million things going through my mind that I want to get done, and like a crazy person I do them myself...then end up paying for it immediately afterward when my body start to ache like crazy! But other than that, I couldn't be happier with my situation! I just can't wait for her to get here! :)

My progress and a little about the baby stuff...

I went to the doctor yesterday for my regular prenatal appointment/ultrasound at 36 weeks 3 days and the baby is doing great! He measured her at 6 lbs 1 oz and she was low down in the head-down position. All very good news to me! He said the most she would weigh, if she went to 40 weeks, would be 7 1/2 lbs, so she'll be a small baby, which is good for me, but makes me feel that much fatter!! My doctor checked my cervix as well and he said I'm making great progress for being 36 1/2 weeks. He said I was almost 1 centimeter dilated and that my cervix was very soft. He said that everything is ready to go, we're just waiting for the baby to make the decision on when she wants to come. So that's all good news for me; that means my baby could literally come at any time now! I'm very excited!! I hope she decides to come within the next two weeks, that would be wonderful. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and trying to stay active to "help" things along, although I know there's nothing that's been proven to induce labor, but it doesn't hurt trying a little bit of everything harmless! ;)
So, Mike and I got our baby furniture over a week ago and it's all SO awesome! We're SO grateful to Shelly (Mike's old coworker) for giving us SUCH a good deal on ALL this super-nice and expensive baby stuff! I'll name off what I can think of that we got from her, and when I finish setting everything up, I'll take pictures and post them.
Let's see, we got a SUPER nice glider, baby swing, baby hammock designed by a specialized doctor for babies with colic, a pack n' play, high chair, baby gate, exersaucer, 2 baby bouncers, stroller & car seat travel system, some toddler toys, a crib/dresser/changing table-dresser set, a SUPER-nice baby crib comforter set, a door-jumper, baby bathtub, a big boppy, wicker baskets, a bottle warmer, a bottle sanitizer, a second stroller (toddler stroller), a Diaper Genie, a Dekor diaper garbage, a toy chest, two potty chairs, a TON of nice baby clothes, and the list goes on and on and on. To give you a good idea of how much stuff we got, we were able to fill a 10 foot Uhaul with everything we got from her. It was wonderful!! There are a few small things I still need, but other than that, I'm set and ready for this baby to come! Again, when everything is all set up, I'll post pictures. We're so excited and I can't wait to be able to use all this new stuff on my sweet little baby!! Hopefully not too much longer now! :)
